HH Junior Congregation 5778

We are pleased to offer the various programs available for our children for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. (Please note that these times are approximate and may be changed based upon services.) All services will begin after the sounding of the Shofar.

The following programs will be held from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM:

First Day Rosh Hashanah

This year we will be having a Mechina Service from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM on the first day of Rosh Hashanna. This family service will be geared to children ages 6-12, their families, and learners of all ages. It will be held in a tent on the parking lot and be conducted by Rabbi Bernstein, Cantor Myerson and our Junior Congregation leader Rachel Merkel. Your main sanctuary tickets will allow you to attend the Mechina Service. Please call the Hebrew School office to get free additional tickets for other family members not attending services in the main sanctuary.  Please join us for this new and exciting addition to our High Holiday experience.

There also be age appropriate service for our younger children on both days of Rosh Hashanna and on Yom Kippur.

For children ages 1-3 (Nursery) we will be offering a baby-sitting service upstairs in classroom #2. There will be adult supervision. Various toys, games and books will be available. Enclosed you will find 1 set of labels, one for each day of the holiday. If you are going to use the baby-sitting service for your children or grandchildren, please write the child’s name, your name, your seat number, and who can pick up your child on each of the labels prior to your arrival at temple. Please have your child or grandchild wear one of these stickers whenever you will be using this service. No child will be admitted into baby-sitting without a sticker. Unfortunately, we will not be able to accommodate children younger than one. Please remember to pick up your child no later than 12:30 PM.

The program for children ages 4-5 (Tots) will be held in classroom #1. There will be an adult supervising and directing this program. The children will begin with a brief overview of the holiday as well as, songs and stories. On Rosh Hashanah there will be challah, apples, honey, and juice.

Second Day Of Rosh Hashanna and Yom Kppur

The program for children 6-8 (Pre-Aleph, and Aleph) will be held in the Muraskin Room. This group will learn some Hebrew words and prayers as well as a more in depth lesson of the High Holidays. They will also be listening to stories and participating in interactive learning games. And, of course, on Rosh Hashanah, the children will have challah, apples, honey and juice.

An abbreviated holiday service is also offered for the children ages 9-12 (Bet, Gimel, Dalet, and Hey). These children are divided by grade. The service is done in both Hebrew and English.

Grade                         Room

Bet                              Room #3

Gimel                          Room #6

Dalet                           Room #8

Volunteers from our congregation run all of our classes. We are in need of additional volunteers for this year. If you are interested in helping in any of these classes, please call the temple office (516) 781-3072 and kindly leave me a message. All parents are invited to stay with their children for these classes. Please pick up your child PROMPTLY so that our volunteers can rejoin their families and services in the main sanctuary.
