Monday, November 19, 2018: The Hey Class will meet at their regular time.
Tuesday, November 20, 2018: Hebrew High will meet at their regular time at the Merrick Jewish Centre.
Wednesday, November 21, 2018: No Hebrew School.
Regular Hebrew School schedules will resume on Monday, November 26, 2018.
We are very excited to have a joint Chanukah Festival on Sunday, December 2, 2018 with Temple Israel of South Merrick. We will meet at Congregation Beth Ohr at 9:50 AM and form a caravan from our parking lot, going down Centre Avenue to Merrick Road, turning left and continuing to Temple Israel of South Merrick. We will arrive at TISM at 10:30 AM when attendance will be taken. The Nassau County Police will be escorting us. If you are unable to join the caravan, please meet us at Temple Israel by 10:30 AM.
One important aspect of this experience is that that we will be building a Menorah made from cans of food which will be given to our food pantry for distribution. Our goal is to collect 1,800 cans. The next very important aspect of our event is that our students will be performing some Chanukah favorites. This will be a day to remember and a wonderful Mitzvah. There will also be Carnival games with prizes, a Holiday Boutique, a photo booth and some scrumptious Chanukah treats.
We are in need of more volunteers for this event. To those who have already volunteered, Todah Rabah.
Many of you have asked about sponsoring the Kosher Kart, The sponsorships are only $36 each. Available dates are: November 28, December 12 and 19, 2018 January 2, 9, 16, 23 and 30, February 27, March 6 and 13, April 3 and 17, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 2019. Thanks to the Bronfeld family for sponsoring the Kosher Kart on November 14, 2018.
Please don't wait, as they are going quickly. If you sign up for a date, your child will have the opportunity and privilige to sell the Kosher Kart on that date. All the kids enjoy selling.
CLASS PARENTS: Please volunteer to be a Class Parent for your child's class. This does not involve a lot of time or preparation. We thank you in advance. If you have already volunteered, we appreciate you.
The Kindergarten and Primary Class: Last week they started to learn about Chanukah, and start making (SHHHHH) Chanukah gifts. Their next class meets on Sunday, December 2, 2018 for our Chanukah Festival.
Save the Date: Our Kindergarten and Primary Class Shabbat is on Friday, January 25, 2019. More information will follow.
The Pre-Aleph Class: I was very impressed about the questions asked about Chanukah. For example, one student asked "Was the oil that lasted for eight nights the same oil used to make potato pancakes?" Their next class meets on Sunday, December 2, 2018 at Temple Israel for our Chanukah Festival.
Aleph: Both Aleph classes are excited about learning to read Hebrew. They have both started the unit on Chanukah and will be bringing home art projects and singing songs which are related to Chanukah.
Bet: The students are starting to learn the vocabulary needed for making the sufganiyot (jelly donuts) for Chanukah. They will be making them on December 2, 2018 at Temple Israel.
Gimel: The students are really excited working with our Shinshin, Yoav, and enjoy asking him questions about his life in Israel. The Gimel students are focusing on their Hebrew reading and are doing well.
They will be comparing Chanukah as celebrated here in Bellmore with the way it is celebrated in Israel.
Dalet: The Dalet students have been very diligent in learning the Shabbat Service. They are also focusing on the important role that Judaism has in their lives.
Hey: A reminder: Hebrew High classes meet on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM until 8:40 PM at the Merrick Jewish Centre.
The Hey students are begining to learn concepts of Talmud and how the Rabbis discuss and interpret it.
The Hey students have been working very hard learning the prayers for their Bar / Bat Mitzvah. I encourage you to attend Shabbat services in the Main Sanctuary to improve your comfort level for your child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah and to strengthen your child's Hebrew reading.
I hope that you have all received the Hebrew School Calendar. If you have any questions or concerns about it, please contact June at SchoolAdm@cbohr.org. Please keep your eye on the Calendar, as we update it regularly.
Our next two Junior Congregation dates are Saturday, December 1, and Saturday, December 8, 2018. It starts at 10:30 AM in the Muraskin Room. We hope that everyone will attend.
HEY STUDENTS: Please make sure that you let the Junior Congregation Leader know that you are attending services in the Main Sanctuary so that you may receive credit for having attended Shabbat services.
For any student who has attended a service here at Congregation Beth Ohr and there is no scheduled Junior Congregation service, please email June (SchoolAdm@cbohr.org) with the date.
We are closed for Thanksgiving break from Tuesday, November 20 until Sunday, November 25. Classes will resume on Monday, November 26, 2018.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held this Monday, November 19, 2018 at 8:00 PM in the Muraskin Room.
On this Thanksgiving, it is my wish that this beautiful holiday will bring our families together so that we may give thanks for all the good things in our lives. Nothing is more important than our loved ones, and it seems to me that on this upcoming Thanksgiving Day we would be remiss if we did not pause to reflect on these things that truly matter in this life.
As always, my door is open to embrace all your suggestions, concerns and ideas.
