Congregation Beth Ohr Scholarship Information
Dear Congregant,
With pleasure we inform you that the following scholarships are available to deserving members or children of our synagogue members whose families are in good financial standing. A student may apply for any or all awards for which he/she is eligible. All require an application and essay. The same essay may be used for the Gesher, and Goldstein scholarships, or different essays may be written; the Bloomstone essay is briefer, with different parameters. The successful applicant for the first three awards will be able to describe in detail actual activities which demonstrate his or her Jewish commitment.
Gesher Scholarship: Any graduating high school senior who has been accepted to a college or technical training school is eligible for this award. A student may apply before he/she is accepted but the check will go to the school that accepts him or her.The focus is on making a place for the synagogue in one’s life. Award has been $1000 to one student or $500 if split between two students.
Harriet Goldstein Scholarship: Any student up to and including the age of 18 is eligible. The award is to be used to further the student’s knowledge, background, or interest in Jewish life. Maximum award is $100.
Bloomstone Encampment Fund: Any student planning to go to Kadima or USY Encampment is eligible. The purpose of the award is to encourage the pursuit of Jewish learning through attendance at Kadima or USY end of summer encampment. Past award has been $100 to any student who goes to Encampment.
The application is available in hard copy in the synagogue office or you can download it HERE.
Deadline will be determined for next year- postmarked or date stamped or emailed to Skolnikbjc@gmail.com.
Thank you.
