Lifelong learning happens here
Learning is for every age and every stage of life. Here at Congregation Beth Ohr, everything we do begins with a foundation in Torah. Study is not only for children and teens, but for their parents and for the adults in our community.
BRUCHIM HABAIM (WELCOME)
Congregation Beth Ohr is home to the Herbert Jacobson Jewish Learning Center a vibrant educational institution promoting an appreciation and awareness of Jewish identity, heritage, customs, values and traditions.
We are thrilled to introduce our new curriculum with a values-based approach following ShalomLearning. This curriculum uses Jewish values as the basis for teaching Judaics. Our educational experience for Kindergarten through Grade 5 emphasizes that our children and families are part of a larger multi-faceted world that can be supported and nurtured by Jewish values and experiences. We believe that creating a strong partnership with parents is a key element that leads to an enriching experience for students and families.
New for 2022:
- Elective Based Learning: We are offering electives for our students in grades 3-6. Students will have the opportunity to choose the track that suits their interests. Some of our elective tracks include but are not limited to: yoga and mindfulness, cooking, and STEM.
- One or two day option: We understand that schedules are tight and strive to meet families where they are, for this reason we are offering families the flexibility to choose to come learn in person on both Sunday and Wednesday or attend in person one day and participate in individual or small group online Hebrew language learning at a time that best suits the student.
Our program is based on the following tenets:
Judaism: Love of Being Jewish - To develop a strong Jewish identity and a sense of pride in being Jewish by providing a positive learning atmosphere.
Mitzvot: Living a Jewish Life - To engage with God, Torah, and mitzvot in meaningful ways.
K’lal Yisrael: Land, People, State of Israel - To develop an appreciation and identification with Israel through Hebrew language the study of Israel.
Tikkun Olam: Repairing the World - To understand and engage in the Jewish responsibility towards others and the world through tzedakah (act of justice) and gemilut chasadim (acts of loving-kindness).
T’fillah: Prayer - To develop an understanding of the structure and meaning of Jewish prayer and the ability to participate in tefillah at any synagogue.
Our dedicated teaching staff offers a meaningful education to children in the local community. Our school is committed to each student and their families, providing a unique learning experience and a solid foundation of Jewish identity, knowledge and culture within a nurturing environment.
We cherish the opportunity to get to know your children and be a part of their Jewish journey.
