Dear Well-Rested Parents,
As we start 2019, I would like to wish everyone a very happy, healthy and prosperous New Year.
Hebrew High will resume this Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A CHANGE IN PROCEDURE FOR ALL STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE MORE THAN TEN (10) MINUTES LATE TO CLASS EFFECTIVE ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2019:
Any student arriving more than ten (10) minutes late to class MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT who must sign a book located in the Hebrew School Office. This is to ensure that all of our students arrive safely in their classes.
Please note that the next Family Service is scheduled for Friday, January 4, 2019 at 8:00 PM. We encourage all of our families to attend and will give Junior Congregation credit.
Many of you have asked about sponsoring the "Kosher Kart", The sponsorships are only $36 each. Available dates are: January 9, 16 and 30, February 27, March 6 and 13, April 3 and 17, May 1, 8, 15, 22, 2019.
Please don't wait, as they are going quickly. If you sign up for a date, your child will have the opportunity and privilige to sell the Kosher Kart on that date. All the kids enjoy selling.
The Kindergarten and Primary Class: When the class resumes on Sunday, January 6, 2019, they will begin to learn about Tu B'Shevat and to prepare for their Shabbat Service which is on Friday, January 25, 2019 at 6:00 PM, followed by a light child-friendly dinner at 6:45-ish. Please have all students wear a white shirt and a dark bottom.
The Pre-Aleph Class: When the class resumes on Sunday, January 6, 2019, they will begin to learn about Tu B'Shevat and to prepare for their Tu B'Shevat "Tasting" on Sunday January 13, 2019.
Please note that the Pre-Aleph and Aleph Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2019.
Aleph: Both Aleph classes are almost half way through their reading book. They are doing very well. When they resumed classes on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, they started to learn their prayers for their Friday night service, which is scheduled for May 31, 2019. Please have the students practice reading in their Aleph-Bet Quest book.
Please note that the Pre-Aleph and Aleph Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2019.
Bet: Classes resumed on Wednesday, January 2, 2019. The students are diligently working on their Bet Siddur Ceremony, scheduled for Sunday, January 27, 2019 from 11:15 AM until 12:15. Please have all children wear a white shirt and a dark bottom.
PARENTS: The last Bet Siddur Cover workshop is on Sunday, January 6, 2019 from 9:30 AM – 12:00 PM. Please contact June to reserve your space.
Please note that your Bet Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2019.
Gimel: The Gimel students are focusing on their Hebrew reading and are doing well. They have begun to study Tu B'Shevat when classes resumed on Wednesday, January 2, 2019.
Please note that your Gimel Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2019.
Dalet: The Dalet students have been very astute in learning the Shabbat Service. They are also focusing on the important role that Judaism has in their lives. The current "hot topic" in their class has been "Israel in the News". The students will work with Yoav on the customs and cultures of Tu B'Shevat in Israel when classes resume on Sunday, January 6, 2019.
Please note that your Dalet Class Shabbat is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2019.
Hey: A reminder: Hebrew High classes meet on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM until 8:40 PM at the Merrick Jewish Centre. Their classes resume on Tuesday, January 8, 2019.
The Hey classes resume on Monday, January 7, 2019.
The Hey students are begining to learn concepts of Talmud and how the Rabbis discuss and interpret it.
The Hey students have been working very hard learning the prayers for their Bar / Bat Mitzvah. I encourage you to attend Shabbat services in the Main Sanctuary to improve your comfort level for your child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah and to strengthen your child's Hebrew reading.
Please note that your Hey Class Shabbat is scheduled for Saturday, February 2, 2019.

Our first Junior Congregation date in 2019 is Saturday, January 12, and the next on is on Saturday, January 26, 2019. It always starts at 10:30 AM in the Muraskin Room. We hope that everyone will attend.

HEY STUDENTS: Please make sure that you let the Junior Congregation Leader know when you attend services in the Main Sanctuary so that you may receive credit for having attended Shabbat services.
For any student who has attended a service here at Congregation Beth Ohr and there is no scheduled Junior Congregation service, please email June (SchoolAdm@cbohr.org) with the date.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held on Monday, January 28, 2019 at 8:00 PM in the Muraskin Room.
