Dear Diligent Parents,
Please note that Hebrew School is closed for Winter Break from Sunday, February 17, 2019 until Sunday, February 24, 2019. Hey classes resume on Monday, February 25, Aleph through Dalet on Wednesday, February 27 and Hey on Thursday, February 28, 2019.
Please wear your CAMP TEE SHIRT to Hebrew School this Sunday, February 10, 2019. From 11:30 AM until 12:15 PM various Jewish Camps will talk about what makes their camp so special. All classes will meet in the Sanctuary and all parents are encouraged to join them.
PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE IS A CHANGE IN PROCEDURE FOR ALL STUDENTS WHO ARRIVE MORE THAN TEN (10) MINUTES LATE TO CLASS EFFECTIVE ON WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 2, 2019:
Any student arriving more than ten (10) minutes late to class MUST BE ACCOMPANIED BY A PARENT who must sign a book located in the Hebrew School Office. This is to ensure that all of our students arrive safely in their classes.
Please note that the next Family Service is scheduled for Friday, March 1, 2019 at 6:30 PM. This is also Shabbat Across America.
Many of you have asked about sponsoring the "Kosher Kart", The sponsorships are only $36 each. Available dates are: February 27, March 6 and 13, April 3 and 17, May 1, 8, 22, 2019. Many thanks to the Pino family for sponsoring last week in memory of Grandpa Jack.
Thank you this week, to the Phillips family who sponsored the Kosher Kart in honor of Matthew's birthday.
Please don't wait, as they are going quickly. If you sign up for a date, your child will have the opportunity and privilige to sell the Kosher Kart on that date. All the kids enjoy selling.
The Kindergarten and Primary Class: The students are now studying Purim and have made some beautiful, creative Purim masks. Our Shin Shin, Yoav, worked with this class and was amazed what they know about Purim.
The Pre-Aleph Class: is learning new Hebrew letters each week. They are also learning new brachot.
Please note that the Pre-Aleph and Aleph Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2019.
Aleph: Todah Rabah, Rabbi, for sharing Rosh Chodesh with our precious Aleph students. They loved your pajamas.
Both Aleph classes are almost two-thirds of the way through their reading book. They are doing very well. They started to learn their prayers for their Friday night service. Please have the students practice reading in their Aleph-Bet Quest book.
Please note that the Pre-Aleph and Aleph Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, May 31, 2019.
Bet: The Bet students have been focusing on the Kiddush and they can now read it in its entirety. They will be studing the history of Modern Day Israel over the next few weeks.
They are excited to use their new Siddur as they continue to prepare for their Bet Class Shabbat Service is scheduled for Friday, May 10, 2019.
Gimel: This Sunday, February 10, 2019, the Gimel class will meet in the Muraskin Room at 9:30 AM. Promptly. Our esteemed Family Educator, Jill Kaplan, will facilitate a "Torah Scavenger Hunt" for both students and their parents. A light breakfast will be served at 11:00-ish, followed by our Camp Day presentations in the Sanctuary. Don't forget to wear your camp tee shirt.
The Gimel students are focusing on their Hebrew reading and are doing well. They have begun to focus on their Friday night prayers for their Class Shabbat. For the past three weeks, they have also been studying and analyzing Hillel.
Please note that your Gimel Class Shabbat is scheduled for Friday, April 12, 2019.
Dalet: The Dalet students have been preparing for their Saturday morning service in March. They are begining to think about how important the service will be as they prepare for their own Bar or Bat Mitzvah Service.
They are also focusing on the important role that Judaism has in their lives. The current "hot topic" in their class is now "Purim". The students will continue to work with Yoav on the customs and cultures of Purim in Israel.
Please note that your Dalet Class Shabbat is scheduled for Saturday, March 2, 2019 at 9:45 AM. Please remember to wear a white shirt and a dark bottom.
Hey: A reminder: Hebrew High classes meet on Tuesdays from 7:00 PM until 8:40 PM at the Merrick Jewish Centre.
The Hey students are discussing relevant Jewish topics relating to the issues that face Jews of America and the world.
The Hey students have been working very hard learning the prayers for their Bar / Bat Mitzvah. I encourage you to attend Shabbat services in the Main Sanctuary to improve your comfort level for your child's Bar or Bat Mitzvah and to strengthen your child's Hebrew reading.
We hope to see all of our Hey students and their parents this Sunday, February 10, 2019 to explore the fun of working in a Jewish camp for the summer. Meet us in the Sanctuary at 11:30 AM.

Our next Junior Congregation date is this Saturday, February 9, 2019. The next one is on Saturday, March 9, 2019. It always starts at 10:30 AM in the Muraskin Room. We hope that everyone will attend.
HEY STUDENTS: Please make sure that you let the Junior Congregation Leader know when you attend services in the Main Sanctuary so that you may receive credit for having attended Shabbat services.
For any student who has attended a service here at Congregation Beth Ohr and there is no scheduled Junior Congregation service, please email June (SchoolAdm@cbohr.org) with the date.
The next Board of Education meeting will be held next Monday, February 25, 2019 at 8:00 PM in the Muraskin Room.

To help your students become more proficient in reading Hebrew, Rabbi Bernstein is offering a class which will enable you to read with your child. The class is called "Hebrew Reading for Hebrew School Parents" and will be held on Sundays at 9:30 AM, begining February 3, 2019. For your convenience, you can join the class when you drop off your child at school.
Cantor Kowitz is offering a Trope Chanting class on Mondays at 7:00 PM.
