Dear Fellow Congregant,

The High Holidays are fast approaching; they are “early” this year. Rosh Hashanah starts at sundown on September 6th, Labor Day. In order to accommodate all of our congregants’ needs for High Holiday seats and provide tickets for them, we must know before August 10th which location you would like to attend.

CBO will be holding services at both our Bellmore and Merrick locations.  Cantor Harlap will be joining our clergy, Rabbi Bernstein and Cantor Diamond, for the High Holidays. Our Intergenerational service will be on the second day of Rosh Hashanah in Merrick.

CBO hopes to make the holidays meaningful for everyone. If you do not want to attend services in person you can watch the livestream.  We are upgrading our livestream equipment to enhance the video service experience. All services from Bellmore will be livestreamed to our website, YouTube and Facebook.

There are different COVID-19 protocols being observed in both buildings.  Please read carefully before making your decision which service to attend. You have the option of attending services in either location.

Both locations and all services will be following these Covid-19 rules:

  • EVERYONE, including children, must have their own ticket to attend any of the services.
  • If you are vaccinated for COVID-19, masks are optional.
  • If you are not vaccinated for COVID-19, masks and social distancing are mandatory.

There is reserved seating on the First Day of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur at both facilities.  There will be open seating with a socially distant section on the second day of Rosh Hashanah in Bellmore. The intergenerational service in Merrick on the second day will also be open seating. There will be open seating with a socially distance section for Kol Nidre in Bellmore only.  There will not be a Kol Nidre Service in Merrick.

Covid-19 rules for Reserved Seating (First Day Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur)

  • Bellmore – Vaccination is required for everyone over the age of 12. There is no social distancing section.  Everyone over the age of twelve will need to provide proof of vaccination before tickets are issued.

On the Second Day of Rosh Hashanah there will be open seating in both locations.  First day tickets may be used in either location on the second day.

  • The Intergenerational service has been extremely popular. It will be held at Merrick on the second day of Rosh Hashanah.  You can use your First Day tickets from either location for admittance, as well as get extra tickets for extended family (grandparents, aunts, uncles, etc) without charge.  The service will be in a socially distance configuration and there will be open seating. The service will be led by Rabbi Bernstein and Cantor Diamond.
  • Bellmore – Open seating with a socially distance section. The service will be led by Cantor Harlap.  First day tickets from either location can be used for admittance.

Yom Kippur services follow the same policies as the first day of Rosh Hashanah.  There will be reserved seating in both Bellmore and Merrick

The deadline is August 10.  We will begin a random seat allocation at that time.  We will attempt to honor requests after that date but that will not begin until all on-time requests are processed.

Former pew holders from any of our founding synagogues will be randomly assigned seats in the new pew configuration for this year only.  A new pew policy will be formulated for future years.

Information on vaccination verification and ticket distribution will be sent later this summer.

Yearly dues include two seats for those with family membership.  Single membership dues include one seat.

Requests for extra tickets should be accompanied by payment or arrangements should be made with the Financial Secretary. PLEASE REMEMBER – EXTRA TICKETS (except for the intergenerational service) ARE FOR FAMILY MEMBERS ONLY.

Please note the following:

In accordance with our constitution, tickets will not be distributed until all prior years’ dues and fees are up to date and current dues are paid or an appropriate agreement to pay temple obligations is in place. Please make sure that your financial obligations are complete as soon as possible.

We wish our Beth Ohr family a Happy, Healthy and Peaceful New Year.
