This week we read Parshat Beshallach which contains Shirat Hayam-The Song at the Sea. It was said by the Israelites as they crossed the sea of Reeds to freedom while escaping Pharaoh and his chariots.
This melody is of Spanish Portuguese origin and was Harmonized in 1914 in the Union Hymnal with a different text. This setting brings the original text back while maintaining the original harmonies.
Translation Then Moses and the people Israel sing this song to Adonai: I will sing to Adonai, mighty in majestic triumph! Horse and driver God has hurled into the sea.
