We are rounding the Passover corner and before we say goodbye to one more season, let’s check in to see if we have gotten what we need from this week of liberation.
On Saturday night, we uprooted all of what is holding us in slavery and gave ourselves permission to move, to grow, and to take a chance on ourselves. We looked past our doubts, speculations, and limiting beliefs and did what our tradition charged us to do, to imagine ourselves having left Egypt, not just in some whimsical play acting, but also in the deeper parts of our current lives where we feel powerless. We discovered where we are in fact powerful, capable, and courageous, even when the timing is not perfect and our bread won’t be what we’re used to it being.
As we look to the future where we will be emerging into the world as freer people, let’s imagine what “perfection” we are willing to sacrifice and what values we are unwilling to compromise.
May you have clarity of purpose, preservation, and unimagined possibilities.
Wishing you a zissen Pesach, Rabbi Bernstein
