Shabbat Blast: 3/11 Halfway Point

03/11/2016 02:18:15 PM

Mar11

We are on the verge of finishing the book of Shemot, almost starting Vayikra. At the end of our Torah portion, we will read, “Chazak chazak venitchazek.Be strong! Be strong! And may we be strengthened!” We can look at this chant as encouragement for reflection as well: “Look at the strength we have cultivated by studying Torah thus far,” and may our accomplishments and our hakarat hatov (recognition of the good that has been done) embolden us to continue the Torah and the work we are cultivating.  We say this in the halfway point of our year. It urges us to reflect now, and not wait for the High holidays. Look at the growth, the challenges, the survival and say, “chazak chazak- We have been strong,” and “may we be strengthened for the 2nd act.”

Shabbat shalom,

Rabbi Bernstein
