We hope that we can count on you to come to the aid of Nataf, Haifa, Zichron Yaakov and other injured Masorti communities.
Dear [first_name], “You shall spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south.” CLICK HERE to listen to Ufarats’ta Recorded by Cantor Sarah Myerson, voice and instruments Composed by Avi Maslo Text from Genesis 28:14 We all know that Jacob dreamed of a ladder or stairway reaching up into the sky, with angelic beings moving up and down, from sky to earth and back again. In his dream, God’s presence was beside him, and gave him the following blessing, “I am Adonai, the God of your father Abraham and the God of Isaac: the ground on which you are lying I will assign to you and to your offspring. Your descendants shall be as the dust of the earth; you shall spread out to the west and to the east, to the north and to the south. All the families of the earth shall bless themselves by you and your descendants. Remember, I am with you: I will protect you wherever you go and will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.” (Genesis 28:13-15) We descendants of Jacob are certainly spread out to all corners of the earth! In my own family, we have relatives in New York and New Jersey, Georgia, Florida, Idaho, California, Iowa and over in Europe. As many of you know, my parents live in Australia, though they are coming here for a visit over Hannukah. I hope you’ll have the opportunity to meet them. Ilya will also be here for part of the winter, and he is excited to be a part of Yiddish New York, a week-long festival in the city, December 25-29. People from all over the world are gathering to make music and art and to sing and dance together. It will be a wonderful week, and I hope some of you will consider participating. What else would you be doing on December 25? There are classes and lectures during the day, and concerts at nighttime. Perhaps we can even book a van if there is enough interest! Here’s a link for more information: http://www.yiddishnewyork.com/
Wishing you a Shabbat Shalom, Cantor Sarah Myerson
