Hodesh tov! Wishing you a restorative start to the month of Heshvan.
 
In this week’s Torah portion, we read about Noah and the ark. Spoiler alert: when it’s all over, God shows Noah a rainbow, as a symbol that God will never again destroy the world (by flood). The Haftarah, from Isaiah, echoes this theme, in achingly beautiful poetry:

כִּ֤י הֶֽהָרִים֙ יָמ֔וּשׁוּ
וְהַגְּבָע֖וֹת תְּמוּטֶ֑נָה
וְחַסְדִּ֞י מֵאִתֵּ֣ךְ לֹֽא־יָמ֗וּשׁ
וּבְרִ֤ית שְׁלוֹמִי֙ לֹ֣א תָמ֔וּט

For the mountains may move, 
And the hills be shaken, 
But my loyalty shall never move from you, 
Nor My covenant of friendship be shaken.
 
I’m taking a few days away next week to recharge after the High Holy Day season, and to prepare for the coming B’nei Mitzvah bonanza in November/December, where we are celebrating seven simhas over the course of six​ Shabbatot!

My absence may well make the difference between our morning minyan being able to recite Kaddish, and not. We are never certain of our numbers. Please make a special effort in the coming week to join our morning minyan Monday and/or Thursday. You have my personal gratitude!
