What does it mean to become ritually purified? Parshat Metzora outlines a number of ways an individual can become ritually purified: animal sacrifices, washing of ones clothes, and shaving of all hair just to name a few.
These are all very fascinating procedures but do they really bring our spiritual side closer with God and help us in our quest for holiness? In today’s world if a person has a skin disease they go to a doctor and get the appropriate medicate treat the skin condition. So why does the Torah give such a detailed description of a purification ritual? Perhaps it is more of what the ritual stands for than its actual function. This biblical rituals that our Parsha gives us have one core thing in common, they are all meant to slow us down and have us interact physically with a higher power.
Becoming ritually purified for me means connecting with god; there are many ways I found to connect with god, conventional prayer, making music, walking nature, participating in traditional Jewish rituals, having discussions about spirituality with friends. As you head into Shabbat ask yourself how can I ritually purify myself. What ways can I connect to a higher power?

We Need Volunteers for Minyan
We have the amazing opportunity to do a mitzvah on Monday and Thursday mornings at minyan. Our members can say Kaddish and can hear the Torah being read. But we need 10 people.
Please take a look at your schedule and contact the Cantor to let him know when you can come once a month to the 6:30 am Monday minyan or 8:00am Thursday minyan. If we all help and make an effort we can make this mitzvah happen and strengthen our community.
