It's time to feed each other and get compliments on our famous dishes. We are trying something new called Shappotluck where the dinner we share is actually prepared by our own hands. This physically and spiritually involves us nourishing each other.
Our synagogue needs to reflect its members and we have to trust each other to uphold kashrut. This is what community means. It is taking place at CBO. Nothing will go in or out of our main kitchen. We have a separate hotbox to heat up food and all food that needs to be refrigerated will be kept in the Muraskin room fridge. Please purchase a new disposable serving utensil for your dish (feel free to bring extra!)
Here are some guidelines:
1. You have a kosher kitchen: cook something dairy and bring it. All ingredients that are not fresh vegetables or fruit need a kosher symbol. Create a label or card with ingredients (all- for dietary needs).
2. If you don't have a kosher kitchen: Feel free to prepare a salad with ingredients that you didn't cook. All ingredients that are not fresh vegetables or fruit need a kosher symbol. Create a label or card with ingredients (all- for dietary needs)
Please do not make an orzo or pasta salad, because those require cooking some of the ingredients. Do not put onion or garlic in your dish (even though its cold). It's a rule of keeping kosher. I promise to explain it in person.
Feel free to buy something from the market or kosher establishment. We need people to bring soda, dessert, wine. Pick up something kosher and frozen.
Sign up HERE!! All food should be brought before 3:00 PM on Friday. You can drop it off Thursday night. You can also come and cook with us on Friday night. If you can help with this event or you have questions, please email Rabbi Bernstein@cbohr.org.
